Repeat! Beautiful Brushstrokes in Violet and Orange

Interest in this pattern is created by the brushstrokes looking really free and loose, in contrast with the organized rhythms of a repeating design.  Layering the violet hues on the pink ground give the shapes form and create movement.  The contrast of the violet shapes and the orange outline give the pattern depth.

Colors! Violet and Orange

This color combination is super! Violet can be such a sweet color, but when it is paired with orange, it really gets jumping! Clockwise: A stunning sunset, Kakuyasu Uchiide's eyelash style, a Bolivian woven blanket, a dress by Louise Vuitton, and a cute little number by Marc Jacobs.

Repeat! Sharp Spikes in Lemon Lime

Maybe this pattern should come with a warning, it's a little spiky and dangerous! The color combination softens the harshness of the pattern, so it ultimately reads as a crafted botanical arrangement. Visual interest is kept by the surprise thorns interrupting the flow of the pattern.

Colors! Lemon Lime

Yellow and green, lemon and lime, accented with jade is spring ready, fresh and crisp. The tart boldness of these citrus colors works wonderfully with the smoothness of the jade.  Clockwise fresh fibers in citrus colors, Gauguin's "In The Waves", and a gem from Missoni's spring collection.

Repeat! Woven Lines in Turquoise and Red

We loved the idea of creating a dynamic design inspired by a simple and common weave structure. The vertical lines are anchored down and seem to be woven together by the teal marks. We achieved  movement from the interaction of the lines and the colors.

Colors! Turquoise and Red

Turquoise and red are a great pair- almost complimentary colors, bold, and sophisticated.  Clockwise: from Versace’s 2011 winter collection a sharp, shiny ensemble; Marta Maas Fjetterstrom’s stunning and complex tapestry with a variety of beautiful reds, rusts, and oranges; Frida Hansen’s Tapestry; and a botanical photo.
