Interest in this pattern is created by the brushstrokes looking really free and loose, in contrast with the organized rhythms of a repeating design. Layering the violet hues on the pink ground give the shapes form and create movement. The contrast of the violet shapes and the orange outline give the pattern depth.

Colors! Violet and Orange
This color combination is super! Violet can be such a sweet color, but when it is paired with orange, it really gets jumping! Clockwise: A stunning sunset, Kakuyasu Uchiide's eyelash style, a Bolivian woven blanket, a dress by Louise Vuitton, and a cute little number by Marc Jacobs.

Shapes! Beautiful Brushstrokes
Beautiful Brushstrokes! All of these images focus on the mark making process. Clockwise: a painted dress from Yves saint Laurent, Roy Lichtenstein's Brush Stroke, Shinshin Jyo-shunpu's calligraphy, a wonderful dip-dye hair-do, and Yves Klein's performance painting using a "living paintbrush" in Anthropometry: Princess Helena.
